About the Project

We designed the exclusive credit card members and private international flight annex lounges in the new International Passenger Terminal at Tokyo International Airport (Haneda). The common theme for the annex lounges was “a Japanese sense of beauty”. The concept for the credit card members lounge was “the sense of beauty created by the merchant culture in the Edo era 1600-1868 (delicate, cheerful and the use of brown and grey shades, etc.)" and for the international lounge “the sense of beauty created by the culture of court nobles (bright, profound, coquettish, etc.)". We designed the lounges to suit the airport which is a gateway to the metropolitan area, creating a relaxed and comfortable space that people from both inside and outside of Japan can enjoy, by adopting traditional patterns and Japanese elements such as lattices and expressing them with a modern interpretation and techniques.
