“Ikoi to Manabi no Koryu Terrace” Opens in Iwakuni City
Creating a community hub connected to nature
— Press release published on PR TIMES
On April 19, 2026, the public complex facility “Ikoi to Manabi no Koryu Terrace” opened in Kuroiso Town, Iwakuni City, Yamaguchi Prefecture.
JMA was responsible for the overall design and construction supervision of the project. The facility integrates a science center and a welfare center, and was planned as a community hub where people can connect through “relaxation” and “learning” within a rich natural environment overlooking the Seto Inland Sea.
The planning began with the site’s natural conditions. The layout is organized along an east–west axis aligned with the sunrise direction on the spring and autumn equinoxes, and adopts a terraced configuration that responds to the existing topography. Architecture and landscape are seamlessly integrated to create a place where light, scenery, and human activity gently connect.
In addition to spaces for scientific experiences and creative activities, the facility includes a hall accommodating up to approximately 500 people, as well as a nature observation pond, observation decks, and inclusive play equipment. These features provide an environment where people of all generations can enjoy spending time together.
By bringing together nature and architecture, as well as learning and community interaction, the project aims to become a new open hub for the region.
