Encounters with
diverse values create
new designs

01

An environment where we can leverage each other's ideas and create new ones

Immediately after I joined the company after graduating from college, I was involved in projects both domestically and internationally. Even though I was new to the company, I had many opportunities to actively express my opinions during internal brainstorming sessions and meetings with clients and the field, and I was sometimes put in charge of projects. This is because of our representative, Mitsui, who has experience studying in the U.S. and working under Cesar Pelli, as well as the supervisors and senior staff who have a deep understanding of the different cultures around me, which I believe is a unique characteristic of JMA/PC&PJ.

02

Collaboration using communication

To realize a single project, the encounter with different cultures and a diversity of values, including communication with designers and collaborators from different countries, is an attractive aspect of international projects. For it is these values that lead to the expression of design.

Absorbing new perspectives and knowledge from different cultures while working on projects in Japan and abroad, such as the U.S., Singapore, Korea, Indonesia, Taiwan, and mainland China, will lead to your next international endeavor. The first step is to understand the country’s culture, laws and regulations, mindset, and work processes. Working with many domestic and international designers, always making constructive suggestions, solving problems one by one and materializing them with high quality. For this, communication and language skills are important.

03

Understand the other party's ideas and acknowledge each other with sincere respect

JMA/PC&PJ has collaborated with Pelli Clarke & Partners of the United States for over 20 years on numerous projects, including Azabudai Hills and Nihonbashi Muromachi Mitsui Tower. We have collaborated with domestic and international firms on design projects, utilizing the design management skills we have cultivated through our years of experience.

Currently, the office has staff overseas, bringing high quality design to the world while taking full advantage of our international network. Working with overseas clients and designers exposes us to different cultures and values, gives us new perspectives and knowledge and broadens the scope of our design work. With a global perspective, we will continue to create richer designs with our diverse partners.

04

A message for those of you who want to build bridges across value systems

In recent years, there has been an increase in the number of foreign-affiliated jobs in Japan, and we are often asked to submit nominated competitions, RFPs, and RFI proposals. We would like to work with people who have a spirit of challenge and who want to build bridges between “people and people” and between “people and companies”, transcending values through “architectural design”.
