Cherry Grove of Seiseki-Sakuragaoka
This project is the final block in a three-block urban development plan. Following the town’s overall concept of “RIVER SIDE TERRACE,” the project was designed to create a vibrant node connecting Keio Line Seiseki-Sakuragaoka Station and the Tama River. The project features a mechanism that fosters human interaction.Compared to the preceding two developments, Brillia Tower Seiseki-Sakuragaoka BLOOMING RESIDENCE (2022), which is adjacent to the railway tracks, and Sakuterrace Mall (2023), which is in the central site, this block’s design distinguishes itself through its proximity to Tama City Seiseki Park and its more nature-rich environment. A continuous row of cherry trees was planted along the western side of the main block, connecting with the existing cherry trees that line the path from the station to the Tama River. This effort aimed to enhance the neighborhood’s character as a place where people can enjoy cherry groves and contribute to the community.
Unlike the preceding blocks, which have an open landscape design, this block features a relaxing oasis surrounded by greenery, creating a distinctive design. As you walk through the entire town, you will notice the area’s distinctive characteristics: high tree density and proximity to greenery. Additionally, we prioritized fostering a sense of unity throughout the town by standardizing paving materials and selecting common tree species.
Given the abundance of nature and greenery within and surrounding this block, the façade design concept was named “BUNDLE,” signifying large trees coming together. The façade achieves a unified design by combining two different volumes: the substantial mass of the outframe, which is formed by a frame structure of columns and beams, and the light volume of the balcony’s glass handrail, which is supported by cantilevered slabs. The rectangular crown accentuates this gathering of volumes, resembling a great tree within the skyline. The lower sections feature natural materials, such as beige-toned tiles and wood-grain metal panels, creating a design that blends with the surrounding landscape.
The interior design of the common areas evokes the image of a riverside forest terrace, creating a space where residents can relax and feel connected to nature at every turn. The entrance hall features deep tones that highlight the forest view ahead. A distinctive staircase allows residents and visitors to ascend and descend while gazing at a design wall inspired by leaf veins and the surrounding landscape. The second-floor lounge is a unique space where you can experience the forest, river, and sky. It is the perfect spot to admire beautiful sunsets and enjoy the passage of time and changing seasons alongside the forest and the water’s surface, both bathed in ever-shifting sunlight. The working lounge and laundry room are designed to fulfill their intended functions while providing welcoming and diverse spaces that cater to each user, thereby enriching their day. Furthermore, the design enhances the connection with the surrounding nature, as seen in details like the artwork made from locally sourced Tama wood.
We believe that we have created a living environment that allows residents to experience the beautiful nature of Seiseki-Sakuragaoka from every angle, thereby enriching their daily lives.
