This senior residence has been planned with the aim of offering a high-quality residential environment that values harmony with nature and connections with people. The people who reside here can spend enriched time in a space surrounded by the broad sky and greenery and deepen their connection with nature within their everyday life.

Based on the business concepts of “enjoying connections with nature and people” and “a senior residence open to the sky, the earth, and people,” we adopted the landscape concept of Landscape Orchestra: a symphony played by the diverse landscapes woven by vibrant human activity and nature. Taking the entire city to be a single symphony, we designed places for a diverse range of interactions between nature and people in many overlapping layers and made a landscape that works together as a whole, like a single symphony. In addition, to build up a luxuriant living environment, we strove to make a landscape space that was unified with the functions and design of the internal space.

In addition, to make the most of the site environment lying between the beach and the semi-natural woodlands, which are the characteristics of Kaihin-Makuhari, we aimed to create a green environment rooted in the region with a planting plan based on the flora actually found in the surrounding area, taking into consideration the conservation of a good ecosystem. By including landscaping plants (flowering trees and shrubs with strong visual appeal) and ornamental grasses that give a sense of the seaside in key locations, we created beautiful, green scenery unique to this location that will be loved by the residents.

Given the characteristics as a senior residence, we set up gardens with ten features that recall the interior space, valuing the thinking that gives older adults places to go and things to do each day to keep them healthy. By making an outdoor space that they become more attached to each time they visit, we have brought into reality places to be that will give the residents purpose and vitality for life from day to day. We have created participatory places (gardens) of many kinds that they can use as venues for group activities, such as physical exercise, planting flowers, and outdoor learning. The various “places to be” like this will become places that respond to the different needs of the residents and will be spaces that are loved long into the future.
