As Makuhari Bay-Park has been developed, Makuhari Wakaba 3-chome Park has fostered interactions between residents and visitors as well. In this renovation, we aimed to add innovations that would increase the attraction of the environment unique to Makuhari with its sea, sky, and greenery and to encourage its evolution towards a park that allows diverse usage according to the season and time of day.

We used “mixed park” to define the design concept and reconstructed the park as a space where a range of energy and activities would naturally arise at the center of Makuhari Bay-Park, which promotes mixed-use urban development for diverse people from different generations to live and visit. Closely linking the characteristics of each of the six adjacent blocks and the activities in the park has made it a location where many different expressions intermingle and people and scenery mix to produce vibrant energy here and there. To stimulate existing activity, we added seats to existing benches and made facilities that allow people of all ages to sit and large numbers of people to gather. We reviewed the existing tree layout and made open spaces that admit sight lines during events, as well as in everyday use, to improve safety and ease of use throughout the park. In addition, to contribute to lifestyles that diversify as the town develops, we have introduced spaces that make remote work easier, benches that accommodate staying for long periods, and lighting plans that let people spend time there at night with peace of mind, as well as play areas, thus greatly expanding the scope of use for the park.

This park will continue to grow while being loved, as a place that cultivates new interactions between a variety of people and continually broadcasts the attractions of Makuhari Bay-Park.
